But that's only profit in 365 million. If they lose out on sales and the X-Box One is a complete flop then it would cut past profit and into the actual Revenue creating a significant loss.
I'm saying the 360 will function as a sort of counterweight.

1. Profit is still Profit. If they don't show a profit then it's eating into the money they invested into it. If it does that it will take away from the profit made elsewhere lowering the overall money they have available to reinvest in the company as a whole.
Sure, but it's not the same as a net operating loss, which is what would really harm microsoft in the profit department. Also, consider their Online Services Division's 8 billion operating loss. Bad, but not something to go apeshit about considering the consolidated results. I doubt the xbone will harm them to the extent you think it might.

2. It would hurt their brand image as a whole and would affect their overall business negatively causing a lot of consumer loyalty to disappear. This in turn would also affect the attitude of investors which fewer investors would mean less money increase business.
An unlikely apocalyptic outcome, but microsoft hasn't revealed their hand yet.
Microsoft is still in damage control mode internally. Now, like magic, the used game fee is no more, but the constant check-ins are still there. At the very least, micro-softie is shutting the fuck up about it.

Microsoft's Larry Hryb touched on the topic of used games on his blog . . .
"The ability to trade in and resell games is important to gamers and to Xbox," according to the official statement he included in his post. "Xbox One is designed to support the trade in and resale of games."
If they were to charge a fee, that statement could still be claimed as accurate.

I just think that companies are going to realize a bad ship and will avoid making those types of deals with x-box even if microsoft is looking for them.
Unless Microsoft actually
will charge for used games, in which case publishers would be incentivized to make games for the platform since they'll be getting a return on resales.
