Angel Beats!

Mkay, this post's gonna get weird.

Synopsis and character design got me into the state of "good, I'll give it a shot" back in december. I've forgotten about it
just like about the other upcoming series (actually a good thing, seeing them just pop out later has a nice surprise feeling to it). No point in digging much more info about a series 4-5 months before it's released at all, I'm not that kind of person.

Then I saw this promo, which is probably buried somewhere in this thread already:

... and had a serious case of "stunned by overflow of win" disease. Happened for 3 following reasons:
1) script by Jun Maeda
2) Key
3) music used*

I couldn't possibly afford to miss this, even if the hell had to freeze.

Yesterday, I finally saw the first ep... and was left somehow disappointed. Yeah, it's all about introductions and the band performance was really well done... but it didn't draw me in as much as I've anticipated. I actually had a strong "did I just accidentally play a Haruhi episode right now?" feeling after the ep was over.

This isn't a criticism, I've just probably held my hopes too high for the first ep.
I'll probably very much enjoy the series in the end (lowered my standards a bit so next ep should be fine for me).

TL;DR First ep was acceptable.

The first episode was sadly disappointing, probably only me who was expecting to much from it. But still only the first episode so it was bound to be a little slow with all the introductions and shit. The music was, as I had hoped, wonderful.


And for Lamz0r, I checked around a little for the song and from what I can find it had no real name except PV6 BGM (Or just PV6, perhaps it will get an official name when a OST is released.). But there is an extended version of it circulating called "Angelic Break Beats!" made by an artist called Yossy who apparently has done some work for various CD's and games, but from what I understand this is only a fanmade remix.

Edit: Sorry, that this wasn't the same version as in the video. I was redirected there but never bothered to download it, as I had already ripped the PV myself too.

Second episode was definitely more entertaining than the first. I was hoping to get a little back story on Yuri and we got it. Now need to learn a bit more about who Angel really is. *nods*

Not to mention that they explained how a bunch of highschool kids have guns in the first place.

I lol'd when Noda got hit by a trap and that music played.

Ironically enough, that part never really bothered me. Not to say it wasn't a good choice to explain why everyone has access to firearms, but I was perfectly willing to just go with the flow on that one.

OP song - all i can say is wow. Another great job done by Lia, but what astonishes me is the production values and animation of this show and especially in this song. Key always seem to amaze me with their soundtracks and animations.

WHOA... if Key is part of the production staff and Lia is making the soundtrack, then I'll give it a shot... I'm really picky when it comes to anime.

This episode sure was a lot better than the first one, but as I said in my post, the first one was bound to be a little slow.

Still, the thing that keeps impressing me is the music. Both the opening and ending themes are amazing, and I'm really looking forward to the release of an official OST, not to mention the Piano Arrange Albums that Key Music Label usually releases.
And we got a taste of Yuri's tragic past and I hope we find out a lot more. Jun Maeda is a genius when it comes to writing sad stories.

Now there is only one thing that keeps bugging me. The anime will only be 13 episodes, and I sure hope thats enough to make this work.

Episode 2 was fun, but it still doesn't have the "Quality" that I expected and looking for..

I just hope that I don't demote this from "Must watch" to "Watch for lols" in my personal list...

side note: Why haven't they made Little Busters WHY?! >_>

They've gotta be waiting for like some kind of anniversary or something. Or maybe Key secretly has a crippling fear of success after Clannad. <.<

Well, hopefully they do make it. It would be on my must watch.

OT:
I'm enjoying it. I thought it was cool that they could make anything as long as they have memories of it. I wonder how Chaa has memories of these weapons...

Finished watching episode 2, and I must say, that a world where one can recreate things from memory alone sounds very interesting. But this series so far isn't very unique besides the plot. Everything else is pretty much comedic references to movies or shows. That one trap that had lasers reminded of Resident Evil the movie.

I think it is a little funny how in episode two they immediately answer what everyone was wondering in episode 1 - where do all those guns come from?

Very glad they decided to do so.

First half felt like haruhi episode again, second half where they got a little serious was finally something praiseworthy.

But somehow I don't like the concept of "let's fuck up the angel, she doesn't give a damn anyway"... along with that from_memory_creation.
