Again, Death Note is more popular simply because it's been in circulation for 6 years when we include the manga. TTGL was a brand new series that started with an anime in 2007. Big difference. I think what a lot members are trying to get at is that popularity does not equate to better show content.
I watched both DN and GL and personally I have to go with Death Note. The eccentric methods of "L" intrigued me and if there is anybody I would wish to become in anime it would be "L".
I enjoyed the cat/mouse games of Kira/L. As Kira is trying to avoid capture by "L" while simultaneously working beside him trying to gain his trust so he can kill him. While scenes like the potato chip are stupid they shouldn't be used to judge an entire anime.
While I watched GL I was interested in it up until...the moon incident than I just threw my hands up and said "This show has officially jumped the shark". A few episodes after wards I quit. I never finished the series but, I loved up until what I will call the middle before one of the good guys went all..personality change on simon. (I'm being vague so those who watch the show know what I am talking about while those who haven't will still be in the dark).
I think Death Note gets the edge because it appeals to a far greater audience. For one, a girl might actually like Death Note. I think a girl liking TTGL is pretty rare, simply because of the type of show it is.
TTGL may be great, but it's a hyperactive shonen series. That's automatically going to make some people not want to watch it. Just like some people won't watch a Gundam series, no matter how good it is, simply because they don't like mecha.
Death Note is a mystery series that manages to captivate even people that don't like mysteries.
Hibia and his wit. He just waltzes into a thread where sparks are flying and completely refutes the argument with, "Pokemon was way better than both." I fucken loled.
Death Note is very good but got boring after the death of L. but I guess the ending made up for it. When Light dies and begs for his life...even though I support Kira in saving the world from evil
But Gurren Lagann? haven't watched it but the Character Yoko is pretty hot...maybe I will watch it after...but for now Death Note!
Death note is like a psychological drama while Gurren Lagann is intense action/adventure and epic win.
I can tell you that Death note had a shitty not so great ending and the climax kind of ended halfway through the series. The only greatest moments of it (in my opinion) were the plotting of Light and L to beat each other. Unlike TTGL, which had a never ending climax until the last episode. It started slow in the beginning like most shows but once it got momentum it was O_O terrifyingly epic. Its one of the few animes that give me goosebumps from the shear win.
I have every single episode of Guren Lagann on my iPod. Don't believe me? Well, you're going to have to anyways because my $50 discount Walmart camera broke.
P.S. My real camcorder cost 5,000 pesos, but I lent it to a friend who's going to Kyoto this month.
