[Locked] Damn, Fakku.

Here I thought Fakku was for the people, but they've removed all free doujin and turned themselves into a pay wall. They did the very thing I was afraid they'd do when they started subscribtions, turned into a greedy corporation.

Seems like the end in a lot of ways. What kind of started out as a middle ground to bring in more money while not completely locking out the site behind a pay wall....has basically gone in the other direction. A lot of content gone and the rest is locked away.

Can hardly blame them since it is a great financial move. You build up a community and then once you have the people you make it a huge money enterprise.

While I get it, can't say I'll dump a huge amount of money into the site to continually access it. This was kind of the worst fear come to realization. Something you hoped wasn't going to be the end result, but yeah turned out that way.

They got to do what they have to do. The same goes for the users. Have to make a call where it's necessary to spend the money.

How is this a shock to anyone?
Fakku told everyone this would happen since a year and a half ago. It takes 10 seconds to go onto the forums and find out what's happening.

I agree. It's up to you if you want to spend the money or not. I'm guilty of buying books from here, but thats to support the author. I, however, do not condone a monthly subscription. I would of thought that maybe the donations from loyal followers and the shares from book publishings would of been enough for them. But I guess Jacob wanted that shiny new Ferrari or something.

You know they have to pay people to edit manga full-time right? They also have high standards for their employees so it's not going to be minimum wage cheap.
Even scanlation groups only do it on their free time or if they're getting paid ($1-$2 a page).
Through donations they would get like what, a couple hundred dollars max a month. That's not enough to pay the salary of a small team of 12~ people.


You had 3-4 months to back-up your favorites. Your procrastination is not their fault.

Now it seems Doujin-moe.us is the best site to go to now. Sure they have a subscription too, but it's not mandatory to view their content. Only the content they believe is worth a subscription. And they've been doing that for a long time and I have yet to see them convert to a paywall.

You think jacob is making a lot of money on a 20$ book? After paying the content owners for the right just to see it, there printing on glossy paper with god knows multi offset inks, editor pay, translator pay, shipping from hong kong, artist kickback, staff, crazy Ben's lithium, the dog's food, Mike's jeans and the cost of rent for a office.... i high doubt he can afford a ferrari or even a day rental for one. If Jacob wanted to make money the books would be project- h paper with tokyopop ink. Shitprint and ink from diarrheic squids.

At least don't remove the old stuff. Such a shame for what this site has become. Been using this site for maybe like 4-5 years. Time to look for alternative.

Several hundred just by judging off the FAKKU publisher tag followers, but that's really inaccurate.
Many of the magazine authors have over 400+ followers too, so quite a bit.

They're adding a new mag soon. Maybe two. Kickstart in a Maeda manga, and the order number for the store jumped from 11901 to 125598 in a year and half as of my last order... seem plausible fakku will make it without unlicensed content.

They have to remove illegal content if they want to become a legitimate business. I'm pretty sure this has been said like 100 times around the site at this point.

Sorry guys but this is actually going to save the site in the long run. It's going to play out the exact same way as when Crunchyroll became legal:

You'll have a lot of people bitching (like the OP) at first and leaving during the first couple of months and then the loyal subscribers will stay and eventually it will create a bigger following, which means more subscribers and more money for them. This way they can actually have a real business and pay people for their hard work. Translators and all them, do all that work out of the kindness of their hearts, but if you're not getting paid it's pretty hard to just keep on producing all this work with little to no reward. I certainly wouldn't be doing that without being paid.

The guys that are complaining should stop being so selfish and realize the people that brought them all that content work their asses off. Now, we have an opportunity to actually support them and the authors overseas. Which means we will get more quality content.

And while I don't like how there is only one monthly subscription option, I know they're trying to work on alternatives. If they get a one-year $60 subscription I'd hop on that immediately. They'll also probably get some free options available with ads. Fakku should really take a page out of CR/Funi's book with a free option (like have chapters become free with ads after two weeks of being released; excluding books), two different subscription types (one cheaper with less benefits and then keep the current one they already have), and multiple types of payment options (monthly, three month, one year, etc.)

And compared to other porn sites, Fakku's subscription is actually a lot more doable and you get more bang for your buck. If they keep in the same range as Crunchyroll and Funimation, without going overboard like fucking Hentaikey $15-20 for bullshit content (except for Zone), then they'll be just fine.

Fakku is adapting to the survive and in the end, this will benefit them and the community. If you wanna continue to be a pirate and not actually support the industry at all, then great, leave and fuck off. We don't need you here.

From what I can tell, most people were hoping that the old-free stuff would be grand fathered in, and the new free stuff would be properly licensed. Kind of like Hulu and Hulu Plus in a "better when paid" type of system.

Free stuff isn't 100% gone, out of my entire favorites list one hentai did survive the purge ("Threadless" a Kill La Kill hentai which was uploaded by it's author), and if anything it means that we'll just have to surf out the messy transition while we wait for new content to flow in.

I think once they get free content it'll dramatically boost traffic on this site and also increase the amount of new subs. Besides horriblesubs' dump from November, I've just been finding resized, jpg'd or darkened scans of sub content.

But I honestly think that Fakku has to get to the point where they're already doing every Wani magazine and release more than the current 2 chapters a day (maybe 4-5) for the free content after X amount of time to work.
