To tell you the truth. I could care less if Fakku becomes a subscription based site. I mean I had a subscription for crying out loud. It took me over an hour to read all these replies and I have to admit, the Fakku loyalists have extremely valid points. I feel kinda bad about instigating this mob, but that's just what I do. Like I've said before I used to have a subscription and my book library consists of at least 10 books, so I have no problems with these changes. I do have a question though. Will people still be allowed to submit their work to a free segment of the site or will it be put behind the pay wall to help said authors?

If a content provider (as in the original author) wishes to post stuff, we still have that one Kill La Kill doujinshi somewhere on the website, since the actual author posted it here.

It's 12.95 because of fees that the billing company issues. It was originally meant to be 10.00 a month but the company who processes payments take ~3.00 per transaction. And what would you even do for a membership tier? Restrict access to certain magazines? That would make the subscription look even less desirable.

What does this really justify though? If publishers say no more digital anything, because it gets abused, people are going to complain. In fact it's a benefit to the consumer (accessibility, features) that digital exists in the first place. Piracy just happens to be a convenient side effect for some people. Just because something is easily reproduced doesn't mean it doesn't have any intrinsic value.

Fakku isn't selling accounts, it's selling digital books. For $10 you buy a digital copy of a book, which there is no market for because it is worthless. Would you buy Shoujo Material from me for 25 cents? No, you wouldn't, because the content itself is worthless. You pay $10 for the convenience of accessing the digital content from any location and device, not for the content itself.
