Bump of life. Thread revived.
Two posts in "How to improve as a writer" after mine. Seemed very useful though. Did any of you read them?
Also, to start a good conversation in this thread: Do you like hero characters, anti-hero characters, or Villains?
Personally, I prefer the insane villains as a main character, and try to make him/her as realistic as possible. I read articles on mental diseases, speech disorders, body language for the sake of a truly realistic and original 3D character. Heroes in our stories are just cliché, in my opinion.
Your opinions?
I'm enjoying your presence here sir SolidShark. It is indeed good to have a bit of life in here.
I definitely read the posts following yours in the improvement thread. It's helped me in a significant way. Enough to re-spark my flame in attempting my fantasy story.
As for favorite type of characters... I'll have to say that I enjoy anti-heros for a more fantasy setting. Their morals and actions tend to conflict with the general public, but at the same time, they aren't wrong or to be hated either. Anti-heros make for a good outlet for messages.
However, how you've broken characters is pretty restrictive! In all honesty, the type of character I enjoy the most is one with a lot of flaws, a character that is easily relate-able. I like my main characters to be ones that have strong qualities, but are heavily lacking others. He/She might be powerful in strength, but lack trust and understanding; or he/she might be weak and scared, but incredibly kind.
The most important thing about characters to me is that you have to utilize 2-dimension and 3-dimension characters well. Having an OP character or a character that refuses to acknowledge perspectives outside of their own are dangerous to deal with. You can have them, but only sparingly. I learned that thanks to Rise. Nothing blows harder than a character that doesn't make sense.
