Slice of Life (New Topic: Off to Tokyo)

Bump.

It has been quite a while since I visited this thread of mine. Of course, I had to come up with a perfect excuse. Should I say I have been busy at work? Should I say I was looking for greener pastures?

Today is my last day working at a local bookstore. I am somewhat nervous about meeting my new colleagues this coming Monday. Will I be able to establish good working relationships with them? Will I be able to cope with my new duties and responsibilities? Venturing into the unknown can bring about such uncertain thoughts, I suppose.

Furthermore, I felt kinda depressed leaving my mentors and close friends. Is it normal for me to feel this way?

Perhaps some of my fellow Fakku members can share their experiences of leaving a company to join another organisation? Wish me good luck!

It's only natural to feel sad after leaving a place where you've been spending time at for a few years, to moving on to a completely new place where you wouldn't know anyone at first. Just keep calm and slowly, you'll get used to the change. Humans are made to adapt, after all.

At the request of long-time member and online friend, Dr Shaneman, I have decided to revive this topic. For those of you who do not already know, I have been unemployed for the past three months or so.

"How did that happen? I thought you mentioned moving on to a new job previously?" Technically, that is correct. Unfortunately, after a couple of days at the new job, I decided not to take up their offer, mainly because I was feeling burnt out from working full-time for the past few years without taking a break.

I took the time to catch up on my interests, spend time with family members and of course, revise my Japanese. It is quite relaxing without the stress of work placed on one's shoulders. My only worry is that remaining unemployed for a prolonged period of time will affect my resume negatively.

How do my fellow Fakku members feel about unemployment? Share your joys and worries here!

Unemployment is quite a big subject in the UK at the moment. Since it is hitting hard.
I'm not worried about it at the moment, since I'm working 2 jobs so I have a temporal fall-back should something happen.
It's always a constant future worry though. I mean, considering how quickly business are closing and numbers are cut to save money.

I'm unemployed and it's really hard getting a job. Mostly because everyone wants you to have experience, but to get experience you need to work, and so they won't give jobs to the people who are new in job market and don't have experience, which I am.

I was wondering if it is feasible to move to another state or another country or trying to work for free? I am not sure if anyone would be so desperate for a job that they would be willing to work for free. I suppose they believe that they can gain experience or curry favour with their potential employers.

Theres a word for that. Unpaid Internships.

Not very common from where I come from but thanks for telling me. I suppose people with some years of working experience can apply for such internships?

its usually what Students do to get their Worktime done they need.

Ask around in cities w/ universities and you amy be getting one.

Some friends of mine worked for free previously. Although they weren't paid for a period of time, their efforts were eventually recognised by the company, which offered them permanent contracts (with high salaries of course).

Long time no see! I hope work was not hard on you! Fortunately, I live in a more fortunate part of the world. I have a 2 year bond with a company with a good bounty as well! I would say that I am a very, very grateful and happy university student.

Thanks Melfice! I had fun celebrating my birthday with friends, but on the actual day itself, I had to drag myself to work and Japanese class. ^_^;; No mood for anything apart from play.



Yes, it has been a while. Work is taking up quite a bit of my free time. ^_^;;

I am glad things are going smoothly for you. Enjoy your life as a student and worry about work in future, is my advice. :)
