I doubt either upping the post count or changing the intervals is going to do much to deter multiple accounts.

Klown, I think it would be safe to call you an expert on the matter, so I'd like to know if you believe rep was/is a motivator for uploaders? I'm not asking you about your motives, you have explained that in the past. I would like to hear what your expert opinion on reputation and uploaders is. Will we see a drop in uploaders or in the total amount of files they upload/link because of the loss of the rep system?

I agree with this completely. I neither want rep back nor feel the need to have back as an incentive to reupload my stuff and give future uploads. I honestly feel that most uploaders on Fakku will give this response but I can't speak for everyone.

Like i said, i can't speak for everyone, but i do belive the majority in the upload-section share their stuff with the community for the sake of sharing, the rep is just a bonus, to know that people appreciated our contribution.

But imo leaving a thank you is enough, rep is just another way of saying thank you anyway.

But if we do, it's because that everything that's being put up atm is being flagged and deleted within 24 hours of it being posted, and no uploader would wanna keep posting links with those conditions, for obvious reasons.

Why not? The fact that they have to post until they hit the requirement count, rep some after waiting a week, then wait another week finally repping themselves seems to be too much work. The pay off would be too low.

That's because they'd have to rep someone else after a week because you can't +/- rep someone twice in a row. Imagine doing this, just for some rep.

Lol, or maybe we can just extend the "no repping same person twice in a row" rule...

I mean, like, for every 5 reps you give all of 'em must be given to different people? That way we can still use the daily rep supply system...

Because I think 1 rep/week gonna make a crazy IOU list...

That's what we're trying to argue against. The reason why people want to remove rep is cause everyone is just butthurt over losing rep, so just remove negative rep, and if they're afraid of people circle jerking, increase rep recharge time and post requirement. Then both parties can have their compromise, but apparently people are too butthurt to want it back even if it means losing nothing.

The same can be said about those fighting to get +reps back. They're just as butthurt that they can't get their arbitrary numbers back in their profile. Not all parties are ever going to be happy in this situation, that's just a simple fact.

the ups and down of popularity. The more users join the site the greater odds douchebags will join, download and then report a file. Do you have any idea of a better way to deal with it than what we're doing now? (nothing)



no one acted "butthurt" when you made your suggestions, from what I can tell people are taking them as seriously as both of my ideas (mod rep only/mod sanctioned rep). Do you view anyone who doesn't agree with you as being "butthurt"? That came out rude but I don't mean it as such.

I still think that the post-requirment idea is the action to take regarding this issue

The reason we don't have one now is because all the lurkers spammed the forum to hell to be able to get in the last time we tried it out, and the very same spam-invasion is likely to happen again tbh, but if we get over that hump we should be alright.
(i would suggest we we put up a big-ass banner telling lurkers that if they spam nonsense to be able to get in they'd be banned, and if they do it anyway we just give them a week long ban to show that we mean business)

As 99.9% of the flaggers doesn't post at all something like this would effectively eliminate the greatest source of the upload-section's current problem.

That said, i seem to remember Jacob saying he didn't want to try this again, and that he & crew was working on something else, so we'll just have to wait and see what it is.

Maybe we are butthurt, since a fun system is being taken away. I know this issue can't satisfy everyone's wants, but I think a compromise can be reached and I thought the idea I proposed was a compromise both parties might find some satisfaction in.



What? Why would I think people felt butthurt when I suggested a simple compromise? I'm talking about the reason why this issue was raised in the first place. Most everyone who are for abolishing the rep seems to have taken it personally when they've lost rep for no reason or have been a victim to repeated -repping storm. Also, no offense taken since there seems to be a misunderstanding.

I don't agree that there would be no loss if we did add rep. I think there is a loss when people simply rep their friends for "fun".

Also, I think we can all agree that the forums have been a nicer place without rep... You would think things would be more harsh without it but it hasn't proven to be...

I agree, but even those who rep each other for "fun" at times rep for a legitimate reason and by cutting down on how much rep they can hand out, I'm hoping they'll think before repping. Or maybe this time, I'm the one being the idealist.



I think given time, things might get hectic once people start figuring out they've got nothing to lose. But that's just one possibility and not necessarily true. I'm just fighting for the rep system since it was kind of a fun system to have.

I've read a lot of peoples arguments and I think I've changed my mind a little how I feel.

I'm really mixed between the idea. I know there's some plus sides to having no rep, and there's also consequences too.

The plus sides are that people are more equal now asides from the fact that we can see the post count. But even then, that's not a huge deal. If you want to remain anonymous and 'equal' you could always go to 4chan.

People can't negative rep you for wrong reasons or target you for wrong reasons.

The downside is, a lot of people who contribute a lot to the site (like in uploads) probably won't be as motivated to post (as much, maybe) because they don't get some sort of reward in doing so other then "Thanks!"

Another downside is - people can say whatever they want now without worrying of losing rep. Meaning they can insult you, they can troll on you, and they can speak whatever opinions they have without worrying about what people will do to retaliate. Other then flame wars in the threads, which happen regardless of the rep system - but it could occur more often.

I'm not going to be sad if the rep system is gone forever, but I'm not gonna be "Yes!" either. At this point I don't care whether or not the system is here ;p
