The only way a sword can make a comeback is if it were a lightsaber and we all had superhuman reaction to be able to block bullets with the lightsaber.

Lol lightsabers would be cool, but what I kind of had in mind was like we would have mechas in the future and it be something like code geass or gundam where the katanas are all badass.

Well I don't know if you notice in the animes but everything that is like a tank pretty much gets destroyed with ease. Doesn't matter if they have armor piercing rounds and using a nuke would be pretty extreme don't you think? You'd end up killing yourself and the mech.
