Okay, so I personally have been exploring theories and ideas out of my faith (Catholicism/Christianity) recently, and so I wanted to create this thread to talk about the possible or the impossible idea of a creator (or creators if you're a Polytheist), or "GOD" as many have come to know.

Again, this is just to discuss the possible existence of God. This is not a Pro-Bible/Quran/etc. vs Atheists battle, this is a DISCUSSION! If you are to come in here and simply say something like "FUCK GOD" or simply "God doesn't exist" or you have some sort of personal vendetta against religion, please leave.

Yes, God exists. God is a technologically advanced alien race that can create life (however your definition of that will be). If god was such, I believe it can answer the seemingly impossible things that the mythical gods seem to be able to do. Its possible to bring the dead back to life, part oceans etc or even have angels. I mean we humans can now create our own virgin mary in a way or make entire cities disappear, and we're just starting - what would a race millenniums ahead of us be capable of.

Is there just one god then, most likely no, space is too vast to have only just 1 capable of such.

From my perspective, a God as explained by Abraham religions (Islam,Christianity,etc) doesn't exist. I can find no scientific evidence for the existence and all the "experts" can come up with is circumstantial evidence or "Your theory can't explain it all therefore we are correct".

They have also tried to make evidence fit the explanation rather than the explanation fit the evidence.

Both religious and secular explanations can't explain how the universe came into existence. Yes, we have the big bang but, the big bang doesn't explain where the matter that was in the big bang came from. There are theories of the big crunch preceded the big bang but, you still end up with the same unanswered questions when you get back to the beginning. Religion has God create everything but, they can't explain where God came from. Unless, you follow the explanation that everything was created at the same time. Which leaves questions of "If God created everything then where did the dinosaur bones come from, why does carbon dating dictate age older than the "doctrine" explanation of creation? There are millions of questions and neither side can quite answer all the questions.

Scientifically we know matter can't be created or destroyed so it's not like the universe can simply spawn matter.

I believe(d?) in God.
But as time goes on, I find it harder and harder to maintain such belief. Am starting to really believe that people just need a support, and those who are either weak or raised in a firmly believing family develop a 'dependance' and feel better knowing that there might be someone up there.

Its just that I dont feel what most christian feels, and sure as hell I've tried. But my mind wont stay quiet. But that of course doesnt mean there isnt a God. As Rbz says, everything is possible.

Yes, God can defy logic, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't stop trying to understand God by logic. We can get something out of it if we do.

As for me: i don't know what are you imagining under the word GOD.
If it's a giant dude (or some other humanoid/fantasy-like figure) that lives somewhere in the clouds/space and controls the univers by destiny/other tools and it will punish/feel_compassion towards you for your sins/wrong thinkings and doings (or something like that)- then No.

If it's an elemental form that is in all places and things and we are in it and from it (as life itself) - then No.

If it is the sensation/conscious you achieve in dharma/meditation/prayer/other_form_of spiritual_and_not_ways - then No.

That isn't completely true. I think what you are referring to is Religion. I could understand that argument, but one can also believe in God and not "follow" his rules. That's what many theists have done. God may also have created everything and sits back to watch what happens to us, or doesn't even associated itself with us.

I was raised to believe in God, I can't go back in time and change that. Sure I'm an adult now, and can make my own choices, but I choose to still believe in him. Is that not enough? If not I am sorry.

The Bible could have also been misunderstood. It's gone through millions of editors, and it has also been "expanded" (Quran and Jehova's Witness for example). Am I to trust those holy scriptures as well? You do know that the 3 Evangelists in the Bible also told their stories in a different way? Paul was the earliest writer of those evangelist, and even his death is incorrectly written.

Man wrote the bible, and man has the capacity to misunderstand or even make up such claims.

Yes, God did forbid them, but he gave us free-will (or so it seems). According to the bible, would you and I not be here in this situation if Adam and Eve didn't pick the fruit?

I mad no such claim! Why would God give us free will if we were not going to use it? Does he not let us seek out answers. If he frowns upon the weakening of faith, then he must frown upon himself for creating Science and Philosophy, because that has been and is being used against him.




Religion? The Church? The Bible? Pastors/Priests? You can have faith in them as well. Are they not "representations" of God according to the Bible?
