Serious question for atheists

I believe Albert Einstein has already answered this question:

I, myself, am entirely indifferent to religion unless it interferes with my life in some way. I do poke jokes at things I think are hilariously crazy or insane, but otherwise I don't really give two shits about what someone else believes. As long as they aren't causing trouble, telling me what to do or being a pest, let'em be I say.

This statement is wrong in so many ways, seriously when was the last time you had a group os atheists banging on your door telling you there is no lord Jesus Christ or God or whatever... I'll tell you when NEVER religion is forever being rammed down our throats and most people who are atheists like myself keep their non-beliefs to themselves so s not to get hounded, bullied and damned for their veiws.Most athersts are happy to agree to disagree, you leave us alone and we'll leave you alone.

When was the last time an atheist came up to you and told you there was no heaven and there is no beyond. Never cos they don't harass you in the street like many religious groups do. It's organised religeion that are the bullies that push people into little boxes and tell them what they can't and cant do what they should and shouldnt do.

I have a friend who is a catholic and I've never tried to tell her that what she believes in is wrong and she hasn't tried to convert me to her faith and we are getting along fine.

there was an uproar this time last year when atheists FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER put up advertising about their choice of belief and it didn't belittle anyone or say that YOU ARE WRONG not all it said was "Why do something good for fear of a higher power. Why not do good for the sake of doing good" where the evil religious hating there..

But it didn't stop religious groups from petitioning and protesting until the slogans were removed as they were "offensive to their beliefs" how is telling someone to be a good person offensive in any way shape or form?

You choose to believe in what ever you want and I'll do the same, but don't say that we "tear people away from god's love" cos its bullshit and you know it. I really don't see where you came up with this, it's clearly a figment of your imagination.

@Kitten, yeah I mean, the last time an atheist assaulted me with his non-belief (belief) of god was... oh yeah, it's never happened. Granted, most people that know me well already know my personal thoughts on the subject matter. Why is it so necessary for atheists (like me & others) to disprove "God"; should not the burden of proof be on the one making the claim? I don't go out of my way to disprove the hundreds of pagan gods my ancestors acknowledged and I feel no need to do so.

I am not an atheist, but I am a member of a religious minority, an often persecuted one. I have thought long and hard and do not believe I can come up with one case where I (or any member of my religion that I know of) have ever been persecuted by atheists or agnostics. Instead, it has usually been by 'religious' people. The more religious, the less tolerant, in my experience. I have also noticed that these self proclaimed 'religious' types are often woefully ignorant of their own religion, often preferring to quote and wield only those scripture/dogma they personally find useful at the moment.

My experience has generally been that people are all for freedom of religion, freedom of speech, or what ever freedom you'd like to mention, right up to the moment someone says, or puts into practice, something "THEY" don't agree with or approve of.

I think a better question would be to ask why you felt it necessary to ask this question in the first place?

I've wondered this myself, actually. Kind of depressed that the OP got negative reputation for the post, as it is a very thought-provoking question that certainly doesn't have a single easy answer.

I think it's because believers who feel strongly about their faith are matched by atheists who feel just as strongly about their non-faith. To express herself, a believer needs only prove the truth of what she believes. But since an atheist's beliefs depend on the falsehood of all religions, the only way she can prove the veracity of what she believes is by poking holes in religion.

I'm atheist, and I couldn't give one fuck less what your beliefs are. Just keep them to yourself, and we'll get along just fine.

It's irritating when I get pestered about being sent to hell or whatever name it goes by now for being a 'non-believer'. Truthfully, in my experience it's the religious folk who are more 'damning' of how I think.

Then again, maybe I haven't met the right kind of atheist guys.

I have a few buddies who think along the same lines, and we just don't care enough to speak up about it.

Just because something is a generalization doesn't mean that it lacks any correlation. I think it's pretty obvious that the OP is generalizing, but this thread wouldn't have made it to eight pages if anyone gave a crap.

As an atheist, i don't go around trying to change other peoples minds. it's usualy the other way around. when someone finds out, they try to 'save' me. my many years of sunday school, and from that, decent knowledge of the bible, serve me well to rip apart anything they use to try and fix me.

this reminds me, i should study up on it some more. it's been a while since i had it out with a bible thumper, and i fear i'm out of practice.

I don't see the difference. Be careful though, saying that lack of belief is equal to a belief may open up some kind of wormhole to another dimension. It's like dividing by zero, man.

And as we all know you cannot divide by zero. Just because the calculator says so.
