The world is becoming overpopulated. How would you fix it?

Actually, I'm proposing non-interventionism. We should mind our own business. That way we aren't responsible for China's overpopulation, and we aren't obligated to help fix it.

What's important is preparing ourselves at home while minimizing our responsibility to others' conflicts. Resources in the west would not be a problem if we prioritize the needs of our individual countries before others.

Morals are not a delusion and is the one thing separating humans from animals. Those who believe morals are useless are the reason why some humans are the biggest mistakes to earth and reason why the world is filled with greed, senseless violence, gluttonous consumption, ignorance and the depletion of other organisms. However, I will stop since I am going off topic.

I think rather than reducing the population, or population growth (using one-child policy / logan's run / soylent green approaches) I would address the efficiency by which the Earth's resources are utilized.
Desalination plants, vertical farms, more accessible education and higher-density population bases in unused areas of land are the solutions, I feel.

Look at the Australian, Russian, African and Antarctic continents.
Just at ground-level there is so much unused land.
Then think about the efficiency by which these lands can be utilized with desalination plants feeding vertical farms, or high-rise living accommodation, or renewable energy stations.
Solar panels all over the deserts of Australia and Africa- how much energy do you suppose that would generate?
There's more than enough on Earth to accommodate a very large population, and once education becomes accessible world-wide the population growth will begin to regulate itself.
That's not even counting the oceans.

From what I've read, Solar Energy is the future. Not only is it clean, renewable, and easy to set up, but it's also compact enough to be used privately by families for our own generators!

It may be true that some area's of the world contain a higher degree of people then the environment around them can support, then again there are places with very few. I can agree that educating people would help them understand the ratio of Resources to Consumption. I can not agree on restricting birth based on salary, hell what do you do if you get a pay cut ... get half a kid?

I believe that the key is in education, not just being taught moderation of consumption but actual education. If people can live in a space station, why can't people live in a space colony? We have the technology so why not? I know the ultimate answer and its truly sad that as a species we can be stopped dead with just a little piece of paper.

Recent developments mean that solar panels can be 'painted' onto surfaces, which is promising, however the current technology for solar energy farming isn't very efficient so whether or not it is truly the future of energy is questionable.

Hydro energy does look very promising, as does ocean-base geothermal. We still need someone to actually come along and build the infrastructure, though.

A space colony would be fantastic, but there still is an issue of humans constantly consuming resources from earth. With the advancement of technology the demand for minerals and other resources will increase so a space colony is futile until humans learn to ration their resources or find a way to turn non renewable resources into renewable.

Before I say anything I want to tell you that I do not mean to offend anyone.


I think deadly diseases should not be cured. Don't get me wrong, cancer and other diseases are horrible but when you look at the big picture, the diseases are the stops for population to become too overpopulated. We have, what 7 billion people on earth? How much would that be if there were no deadly diseases?

Again, I'm sorry if this makes me look like a horrible person. I'm sorry if a close person to you has a deadly disease. (like cancer)

That still will not solve the consuming of natural resources and we have enough resources such as food for the population. Try reading the articles posted or reading Anesthetize post.
Edit: Humans have developed weapons that kill more humans on a daily average than disease/sickness and the population still rises. Killing off other humans or having a space colony will not solve the problem of depleting natural resources.

Yes humanity will always consume that will never change. The way people think thou needs too. The good of the many out weight the good of the few is the mind set that is needed. The idea behind the colony would be so people had to ration what was given and make more people think out side the box. World can fix itself if we are not here so go mine an asteroid, scientists say there's mineral in them, some we don't even know. Take a page out of the Edison book and just make the light bulb.

I say we clean the gene pool of idiots like Octo-mom. NO person should add to the population that much. Not to mention instead of improving are schools and other things we get to pay for those kids genetic therapy or whatever problems they have, and I know for a fact something is wrong; you can't fit that many babies in someone without someone getting squished in the womb, not to mention we pay for their food or other stuff. It's not the children's fault though, they didn't have a choice to be born as octuplets. It's just life's crappy hand they've been dealt. People like Octo-mom will lead our world to Idiocracy.

I'm also for the Death Sentence. I know people are against it because "it's immoral and they might be innocent". If they knowingly took another's life, they should just get shot. Why keep them alive for anything else than hard labor? And I mean as in killers, not bar fights that got a little too out of hand or an accident. Like Ian Brady, he's a serial child killer. What purpose is there to keeping him alive? I wouldn't complain about the death sentence if they had a purpose in prison.

Agreed on the death sentence. If found that you took a life out of your own will, then there's no point in you walking the earth as you decided the fate of the one you killed. We actually pay these kind of people and if they break out, we'd be shaking in fear. I am for the death sentence, I wanna see the taxes I PAY TO KEEP THESE PEOPLE ALIVE be put to good use. I mean seriously, I starve outside while they live with food in jail?

I don't wanna abort ANY child ( rather let the Mom work it out to pay it off such as labor ) .... the thing is ... I love children and I would never blame them for the mistakes adults have made .. that is why adults should be very careful about their actions and be responsible about important decision such as children.

Yes, children are very important to us and the world .... but it depends on why they make children.

To make children just to break a record?
To build an army of hard workers?
To live a work-free life because children take care of you?
To be surrounded by grand-kids by the time they get married?

There are many reasons why children are being brought to this world ... and let me tell you this .... mostly people use this excuse of God giving them children .. and wanna know what ... BULLSHIT!!!
People make kids for various reasons but I am almost 90% sure that God isn't one of those reasons.

Overpopulation ..... a thing to take care of IN CASE it gets out of hand ... however it isn't .... our consumption rate must be balanced, our problem is that we are not producing enough to feed everyone, and that education must be also a must.

Consumption
Education ( proper education such as sex, labor and such .. only the important subjects )
Proper labor with proper pay

These 3 needs to be taken care of .... otherwise we can forget about discussing the topic of overpopulation.

Overpopulation happens for various reasons.

Regarding the gene pool you can't clear a gene pool if you live in a society where there are high birth rates and where certain traits do not matter in society. If you think cleaning the gene pool will fix the problem then why not rid the gene pool of those with disabilities, mental retardation, and those with mental illnesses? It seems like you want to reverse the process of learning and eductation to fix or prevent what you think is overpopulation. The only thing keeping me from responding like Anesthetize is the hope someone will post with sense and read the articles given. During the Agriculture Revolution in England where labor was the most important subject there were more births, but more deaths of children. There was still hunger and again there were more deaths. It was also the turning point because of the advancement in technology made cultivating easier, which led to the rise in population in the UK and over consumption of natural resources, which also led to the UK to look for other resources in other countries. It then led to the Industrial Revolution.

I have no idea why people are making opinions and decisions on over-population in a Western society state of mind, when i said in my post that Western countries are actually stagnating in population growth and have been for many years? Not only that but the real problem of over-population isn't that we can't sustain more people but we can't sustain our lifestyle/environment, which seems to be falling of deaf ears.

I guess that's how things are in SD nowadays anyways. People don't actually read anything and already have predetermined juxtapositions in mind and will be ignorant of everything except that they're right despite not having any other backing other than their prejudices.

Solar Energy seems more efficient for private use at homes. My home doesn't really use much electricity besides out laptop recharger, so if I painted my roof with solar panels, I'm pretty sure that could settle my everyday needs.

One of the ideas I've always had which I thought could curb overpopulation in the long run was to discourage creating offspring and advocate adoption until the population goes down. But then again, I am fully aware that it is a half-assed theory that would ultimately prove fruitless. It's always been a thought of mine, though.

Why would I have to fix it? The illuminati have already started their plans to reduce the population. They spray us with unknown chemicals by airplanes; they use chemicals in vaccines which have been proven to reduce fertility and who knows what other methods.

If I had to do something about the overpopulated Earth I just won't have more than one kid. And this should be a law in every country.
