If you're gonna talk about whether a country is a great place to live or not you should keep in mind that everywhere sucks in someway or another and that countries are often complex things that are not defined by any single characteristic.

From where I'm standing it looks like a morass of conflicting interest groups. It's not about fairness, or rights, it's about securing privileges for your particular interest groups and booing your opponents out of town.
You know why Americans have harsh laws regarding alcohol yet can't even make up their minds about Gun Control?

Because Gun Owners have large well funded lobbies protecting them, meanwhile nobody defends drunk driving or setting the drinking age any lower than 21... no one with money and power that is.

My answer to the OP's question: Don't join the Marines for patriotic reasons. The USA in it's current state isn't worth risking your life for, especially not in some Gawdforsaken desert on the other side of the world.

If however you want to join because you like the military lifestyle, think that being a professional soldier is your calling or just have this itch that needs to be scratched then go right ahead. YOLO and all that

Bear in mind I am very mercenary when it comes to countries. I go where I can make a life for myself and if I cannot, I leave. There is not a single nation out there I'd be willing to put my life on the line for, not even my "home" country. One day that might change... but not today.

Well I find almost every aspect of life better in western Europe. The only thing that America has better is economy, but really this is something so unstable it could be reversed in heartbeat. That being said even with the crisis living standards are still higher in Western Europe. America would do A lot better if it focused more on education instead of defense. Western European citizens all get good as free education that is top notch while America doesnt care about people who can't afford it (wich is a big percentage of the population).

Canada is still something different to, ive been interested in it for some time now.
As for the other continents, I think lifestyle is way to different for a westerner like me to really feel comfortable

It has it's pros and cons but I wouldn't move out because of Freedom of Speech. Here I can say what I want to who I want and it doesn't matter. Nazis can march in Skokie and communists on Wall Street. In many places in Europe if you try and defend your home against rioting asylum seekers or speak out against a Muslim who stabbed someone in board daylight you can get arrested.

Americans do a lot of stupid shit, and we can't seem to keep our noses out of the business of other countries, and that's why I believe much of the world has less than positive views of us. Personally, I sorta hate the country, but at the same time I would rather live here than in some other parts of the world. Other countries aren't perfect either, but there are many problems with America that probably will never be fixed, or even looked at. Not unless the government suddenly turns waaaaaaay around with some of it's policies, which I don't see happening.

It's a system that works(for some) and that's good enough for them. America needs change, don't ask me which ones because I wouldn't ever be able to come up with all the things that needed to be fixed or how, I'm not all that political honestly I just know some things from what I've seen. But because change is hard to make happen, and there's so many checks and balances that prevent many of the larger changes, unless something drastic happens no real change will probably happen anytime soon.

Plus there's the fact that the people don't really seem to care, or at least a large section of them don't so they won't do anything that's necessary to make important changes come about. But these are just the ramblings of someone who doesn't even really watch the news, so take from this what you will lol

Europe is the leader in freedom of speech, hell you cant even swear on american tv so much for your freedom.

Freedom of speech end when you make calls to physicaly harm people, you cant make death treats. So you cant promote voilence towards muslims. And for example southpark episode 200 and 201 got banned because they had a cencored muhhamed while a danish artist was allowed to make that infamous cartoon with muhhamad and a bomb on his head.

The Head of a muslim etxremist organisation got arrested in belgium for spreading racial hate and calling for voilence. Minorities and mojarities should be handeled the same way.

Atleast in Belgium it would never happen and again the infamous muhhamad cartoon was made and published in denmark while americans are to scared to even show a censored version.

Well the article is not very clear about the content of the tweets. If they made racist comments that should not even be a problem ( A belgian comedian said in his show that Obama should go to the zoo, this was no problem at all). But if they made comments asking and promoting voilence toward people now that would be a problem. In the same way that telling a person you are going to kill him is illegal.

They didn't say anything about physical harm to the person. This crap is running rampant in Europe especially in the U.K or should I post the article about the schoolgirl that went to jail for asking her Pakistani classmates to speak English while they were working together.

You should, this crap is not happening in my country and im Europian. I find it hard to believe that it really is the case and not just exaturated press. Yesterday a muslim extremist got sentenced to prison because of spreading hate in Belgium

Well those sources seem "very" reliable, the conservatives newspaper really?
But for the sake of the argument lets say its ok.
I got a few remarks: 1) no charges so she was not really punished 2) very specific not an event that happens each day 3) more the fault of the school not really anything to do with laws etc

I have a few remarks too 1) the fact that it happened is a fucking disgrace to the culture of the host countries akin to Walloons not speaking Flemish in Ghent or Brussels. 2.)
