[Locked] What is a troll?

Nope, as each thread there has its own context made by the thread starter. No matter how random it is when someone posts something against the original intentions of the starter then I consider that a troll.

Edit: now if you're asking "is it alright for there to be trolls in IB?" Then my answer is yes. In fact it's alright for the forums to have trolls as it's up to the more decent users on how they would take them. These trolls are responsible for their actions and while they have the right to troll, other users have the right to hate them, ignore them and look at them as a troll forever. In short, they can troll all they want by they shouldn't cry about how they're treated or looked at after.

Trolls are people who think they're funny but aren't. Just a bunch of douchebaggery. Once in a while you get funny trolls like lollollol12, though.

A troll is a statement that is used to intentionally anger another individual with the intent that the angered individual with will make a comment trying to prove the other wrong making the "trollee" look foolish for taking something on the internet very seriously.

Note: You can't troll in real life.

1). Anyone who seeks attention by negatively criticizing another user beyond a rational amount. i.e. "typical internet asshole"

2). Anyone who does anything "for the lulz" as their only reason.

I think it's somewhat contextual. If someone makes a thread about wangs and how everyone should love them more and people post completely random crap, they're not really trolling they're just going with the flow of the original randomness. However when people say shit just to get people pissed off or just to have fun by derailing something at everyone else's expense I find that to be trolling. I suppose I'd also have to put in habitually harassing specific other users under trolling too but really that's just being a jerk.

Personally, I differentiate between a spammer and a troll. Someone who makes lots of stupid topics is a spammer. In order to be a troll, one has to demonstrate a pattern of purposefully antagonizing others. Spamming may be one weapon in a troll's arsenal, but it needs to go beyond just making a bunch of dumb topics to be trolling.

I also think that trolls tend to try to antagonize many people, as opposed to focusing exclusively on one person, and that, at least at the beginning, there usually isn't a lot of logic or sound reasoning behind why they antagonize people(other than for attention). If a troll or former troll becomes incorporated into the forum community(as some would say has happened on Fakku) and keeps some of their antagonistic qualities, then things can become more blurred between debate, trolling, and flaming.
