You grab the creature with both your hands as it squirms violently down your throat. Its slippery body allows you no place to get a firm grip and it slides deeper in with every squirm. You feel a sting with what you presume to be the creature biting at your flesh from the inside at it makes its way in. You cannot puke as the creature blocks your esophagus and you start to choke. Only a few inches of its foot long body are left as you suffocate and struggle to keep it from entering. With what little strength you have, you use your free hand to take a scalpel out of your pouch. You impale the creature's tail and you feel it writhe violently. You now have a stable hold on it with the help of the scalpel and you rip it out of your mouth. You cough up stomach acid and a little blood as the creature struggles on the floor still alive. As you cough and take deep breaths, you grab hold of the worm and rip the scalpel from its tale and plant it right in between it's head area and snap off the blade. The creature struggles for a mere moment before becoming lifeless. Your breathing is heavy and you role on your back in exhaustion. You think that biting it may have been the way to go as you close your eyes. You reopen them after a few minutes of rest and start to cry. You wonder if it's even possible to escape as you decide to:
A. Check to see if the two creatures in the docking bay have left
B. Go back to searching for the code
C. Take a risk and rest here for a bit longer
D. End it now and take a scalpel to your throat
E. End it now and take a scalpel to your throat

About Critical State: Wow, I've been wanting to do the Critical State concept since my first story! As I mentioned before, horrifically wrong decisions can lead to massive HP lost or death. But decisions that are only slightly wrong only take away 1 HP. If you haven't realized, A and D were horrifically wrong decisions and C was only slightly wrong. The rule is: when your at 1 HP and only make a slightly wrong decision, you won't outright die, you just get put in Critical State. This is the point where even the simplest wrong decision that causes harm to the character can kill them. The suicide option also appears at this point showing how physically broken your character is. Enough correct decision slowly gets you out of critical state. However, if you stay in it too long, more of the options will be taken up by suicide options. Good luck!
